I'm not sure what happened to April, but it was gone in the blink of an eye! As expected, it was a rollercoaster kind of month. I said goodbye to my teaching job (with a serious amount of tears, I might add), but at the same time, I feel much more at ease, and I am looking forward to starting my new job on the 8th of this month. I'm currently enjoying my two week May break, which I'm spending reading, working out, and getting stuff sorted in and around the house. Safe to say, I finally feel like I actually get to relax somewhat again. Our weekend away was phenomenal, by the way. Seeing the happy faces of my kids as they went in rollercoasters (which they previously didn't dare) and down water slides (which they were also afraid of), pushing their boundaries a little, made all the pain and exhaustion absolutely worth it! (But am I glad for those two weeks off!)
What am I currently working on?
I've started on the outlines for the second book in the Erlandian Chronicles. I've got the character outlines for the protagonist and the 'love-interest', as well as the outline for the first and second arc. To be fair, I haven't worked much on it since we went away for the weekend, but I will be picking it up again this week.
What am I watching?
So, aside from watching Blindspot with my husband, I've started the second season of Shadow & Bone on Netflix.
Yeaaaaah, I am still on this one, and to be honest, I still can't quite get into it. Episode 2 was okay, I guess?
What am I reading?
So, I'm one of those people who actually reads multiple books at once. Well, not at once, but alongside each other. Depending on the books, by the way! In the last two weeks I finished 'The Wisteria Society of Lady Scoundrels', 'The League of Gentlewoman Witches', and 'The Secret Service of Tea and Treason' by India Holton. I laughed so hard reading these books! The sarcasm and wittiness and playfulness with the English language is outstanding! But, I've gone on to other books.
Parked this one for a moment. Being a mood reader (and someone chasing the dopamine), I needed a change of pace. Will get back to it though!
For this month's book club, we chose to read Re-coil where Altered Carbon meets Firefly. When I saw the cover for the first time, I was sold (I love pretty colours). When I read the blurb and realised it's an AC/Firefly mix, I bought it. I'm usually not a huge fan of Sci-Fi; the heavy Sci-fi generally does my head in, but so far, this is a fast read, and I am thoroughly enjoying myself! Started Saturday night, and I'm already about halfway. If I didn't have to do any chores, I'm pretty sure it would have been finished already!
V.E. Schwab is one of my most favourite authors, but I haven't yet been able to bring myself to read this series for some reason. A friend of mine wanted to read it too, so now we're doing a buddy read, meaning we read about 4 chapters a day. I'd never done it before, but it sure helps!
And last but not least, I'm reading book 4 in the Guild Codex series on my Kindle. It's one of those snack books that you can read through right about anything.
What else am I up to?
Aside from all of the above, I've been going to indoor playgrounds with the kids to keep them happy. It's a different world of insanity for parents, and I commend those parents who can get through sitting there for hours without noise-cancelling headphones. I know I can't! But it makes my kids happy, and I get to read or write. A win-win situation!
